Even death needs a holiday. Morty just wants to relax. He never expected his peaceful cruise to turn into such a disaster. Everyone needs a little time to unwind, but even a reaper never actually gets to rest.
I really liked the story and found it to be a unique concept. I never imagined the grim reaper in this way and it kept the story intriguing.

Morty’s Holiday by Brýn Grover

First of all—thank you, Brýn, for letting me hop on this beautifully unhinged little cruise, and thanks to Inside Story for handing me a boarding pass straight into reaper chaos. Because apparently when I say I need something “light,” what I actually mean is: give me Death on vacation and let him spiral politely.
This is a short horror novella, and honestly? It knew exactly what it was doing. No dragging. No pretending to be deeper than it needs to be. Just fast-paced, sharp, slightly twisted fun. I started reading and suddenly I was grinning like someone who clearly reads too much darkness but is trying to behave.
And here’s the thing — I usually live in the emotional trenches. I like my books heavy, morally questionable, and slightly traumatic. But this? This was horror with a smirk. Chaos with sunscreen. Death trying to relax and failing miserably. Relatable, honestly. Even the Grim Reaper can’t escape bad luck. There’s something weirdly comforting about that.
I won’t spoil anything because I refuse to be that person who flips the cruise ship before you even get on. It’s short, so every reveal matters. But if you want something that lets you breathe while still keeping that dark little sparkle in your eye, this is it. It’s the kind of story where you can sip something colorful with a ridiculous umbrella in it and still whisper, “Oh no… oh this is going to go wrong,” while enjoying every second.
It didn’t try to emotionally destroy me. And I respected that. It took the darkness I usually marinate in and turned it into something playful, chaotic, and strangely comforting.
Four chaotic reaper stars because I had fun. And sometimes fun—with a touch of death—is exactly what I need. 🖤
