Dr. Lindsey Hart has spent twenty years behind the locked doors of a high-security psychiatric hospital, a place where the line between sanity and madness is thinner than the ward walls.

When curiosity lures her onto a dark-web forum for underground researchers, she discovers K-29, an untraceable compound rumoured to silence psychosis and other symptoms through micro-dosing. Convinced she's on the edge of a therapeutic breakthrough, Lindsey begins testing the drug on some of her most disturbed patients.

But when one of them turns violently on another, the illusion of control shatters. The experiment spreads beyond her reach, and the people behind K-29 make contact... demanding she continue, no matter the cost.

Now Lindsey is trapped between exposure and obsession, guilt and discovery, science and something far darker. As her patients unravel, her own secrets also claw toward the surface, leaving her few options.

Sweet Insanity is a haunting psychological thriller about ambition, guilt, and the perilous edge between brilliance and delusion - where every cure comes with a price.

Make sure you check out all of the LOVE YOU TO DEATH dark thriller stories!

This book takes you on the journey of a wild experimentation. Dr. Lindsey Hart isn't your run of the mill Dr. She lets her curiosity get the best of her after a search on the dark web. She decides to do a little off the books study but is she really the one in control? The lines blur in this tale of trial and error.

I really enjoyed this story. It’s told from the position of a mental health provider. I do wish the ending was a bit more elaborated but I will read again and see if I catch on to more. I would recommend you anyone that is interested in human interaction and psychological thrillers.

No surprise at all that her last name is Fear. Danielle Fear never misses a chance to stress me out, and Sweet Insanity is proof she can do it in record time.

This short thriller throws you straight into a locked psychiatric ward with a doctor who absolutely should not be experimenting with sketchy dark web drugs. Every decision made had me whispering, “This is a bad idea,” and then watching it get worse anyway.

Fear delivers creepy, suspenseful reads whether they’re full length or short, and this one is a fast, hair raising psychological medical thriller that doesn’t waste a page. By the end, I was questioning my own sanity more than my family usually does, which feels like the intended outcome.

Quick, intense, and uncomfortably good. Sweet Insanity is part of the Love You to Death collection by a group of multi-talented authors, coming January 30th. Mark your calendars and prepare to be unsettled.

Dr. Hart is looking for solutions and potential cures for her patients in the psych ward. She stumbles across a potential cure. Do the benefits outweigh the side effects? She thought she had her identity hidden on the forum but someone knows who she is and what she did.

Y’ALL—Danielle Fear does what she always does and starts fast right out of the gate, wasting zero time throwing you headfirst into this sharp, unsettling psychological thriller. Set inside a high-security psych ward that practically smells like bleach, fear, and bad choices, Dr. Lindsey Hart’s obsession with a dark-web miracle drug (hello, K-29 👀💊) spirals hard and fast as control slips, patients unravel, and the line between science and something darker blurs. The tension is tight, the pacing relentless, and the writing clean, atmospheric, and razor-focused—every sentence pulling you deeper into guilt, ambition, and moral gray zones that crawl under your skin. This short story punches way above its weight and is a perfectly twisted addition to the LOVE YOU TO DEATH multi-author short story collection (7 books of dark Valentine chaos 🖤🔪). Fast, smart, disturbing, and impossible to put down.

Thank you Danielle Fear for the advance copy of this sweetly, insane story for my honest, voluntary review.

I really wish this was longer! I loved the twist at the end and was so sad when it ended, really hoping the author might pick up where she left off into a full novel! The things you will do for love...even if that love is for knowledge and passion.

I received this as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

This is a fascinating, lyrical and yet still horrifying short story. I love the characters. It is truly a thriller: heart pounding and yet delicate, ambiguous and final.

A fantastic read.

simple. calculating. watch. dose. observe. wait.
The thoughts from Dr Hart of The dark web was my downfall I knew this before I started. I couldn't stay away. this was the doctor's error. too easily swayed and caught in candy land. too much to lose but too curious to leave it alone. this psychological thriller was chefs kiss. The ending? Def didn't see that coming. Absolutely loved this wick read.

Danielle Fear delivers a psychological thriller that tightens its grip slowly, blurring ethics, ambition, and obsession until nothing feels stable. Smart, disturbing, and emotionally charged, it is a chilling read that asks how far is too far and what happens when brilliance starts to look a lot like madness?

“Sweet Insanity” - We’re all mad here.

★★★★☆

This novel was short, “sweet” *wink wink* and made me wonder if my curiosity and ethics would be put to the test. I went in blind and can safely say this story did not disappoint, it was fast paced, intriguing and kept me engaged from start to finish. Also I will now never accept candy from a stranger or health care professional.

This was a fast-paced short story that kept my interest from start to finish. It can easily be read in one sitting.

Danielle is a great writer that I had read a few other books by. I plan to read them all. If you like edge-of-your-seat fast-paced thrillers, this book is for you!

A psychological short story set in a psych ward was always going to be a weakness — so when I was chosen to review Sweet Insanity, I jumped at the chance and devoured it in a single sitting.

Told from the perspective of a mental health professional, Sweet Insanity unfolds within a psychiatric facility where control, professionalism, and emotional distance begin to fracture. Rather than relying on shock or overt action, the tension simmers quietly, driven by internal conflict, blurred ethical lines, and unsettling power dynamics. The result is a creeping unease that lingers heavy in the air.

By the end, the story leaves you questioning who truly holds the power — healer or patient — and reminds us that madness isn’t confined to locked wards. Insight, when wielded by the wrong mind, can be just as dangerous as violence.

Move over Freida, I’ve found a new favourite psychological thriller author. Danielle has a delicious talent for drawing you in with restraint and atmosphere, then pulling the rug from under your feet when you least expect it.

It was well-written, well-researched, and organized. It was something I didn’t expect from a Valentine thriller series but I loved it.

This fast-paced psychological thriller allowed me to rethink my decisions when it comes to trying out new things online. Also, it made me realize that sometimes, if we are living a lie, it becomes a dangerous truth. Living too much in a lie makes us believe it and the truth becomes scary.

Sweet Insanity by Danielle Fear
ARC Review

First of all—thank you for the ARC. I genuinely enjoyed this little psychological experiment. Like, almost enough to start taking notes. Almost. The psychologist part of my brain briefly clocked in… the reader part immediately told her to shut up and enjoy the ride.

And honestly? That was the right call.

This is a fun, fast-paced read that doesn’t try to outsmart you for sport. No unnecessary mental gymnastics, no overcomplicated “look how clever I am” nonsense. And sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Not every book needs to feel like an exam you didn’t study for. Sometimes you just want the literary equivalent of a solid thriller movie: curled up on the couch, fluffy blanket, hot drink (tea, wine, whiskey—dealer’s choice), and your emotional support animal. Dog. Cat. Goldfish. Sloth. No judgment.

This is that book.

Read it like you’d watch a movie. Let it happen. Don’t overthink it. Just enjoy the ride and the creeping unease.

I’m giving it four experimental stars because—for me—the ending didn’t need quite as much explanation as it got. I like my psychological chaos with a little mystery left to rot in the corner. But that’s a personal preference, not a dealbreaker. Don’t let it scare you off.

Also… it will make you rethink whether working on a psych ward is a calling… or a personal hell. Possibly both.

Snuggle up, fellow thriller goblins. You’ll have a good time. 🖤🖤🖤
