The C'raether evolved alongside mankind, ultimately to hunt them as prey. Few in number, they remain hidden within human society. They take human lives and souls without qualm, feeding on blood and memories to sustain their immortality.

The Brothers, as they call themselves, selected a new recruit. That was me: Ethan Westwood; erstwhile local rock guitarist, with an erratic drug habit and multi-layered personality; a confused soul, oddly out of phase with the world.

My hidden heritage was key to my nagging unease, and also my invitation into their strange company. Joining the Brothers changed me - in some ways for the better, and in other ways destructively. Being initiated and accepted by the Brothers gave me purpose and belonging, which I needed at the time, but I had just traded one addiction for another.

My selection came at great cost: confusion and hurt; betrayal of the people I loved; many lives taken, and many others destroyed.
