Toxic is a gripping, claustrophobic psychological thriller that pulls you immediately into the fractured mind of its narrator. The prose is razor-sharp, perfectly capturing the paranoia and spiraling logic of a protagonist whose grip on reality is questionable from the very first page. The atmosphere is suffocating; the manicured suburban setting of Lilypond Lane feels like it's closing in with every chapter, making this a genuinely unsettling read you won't want to put down.
What makes Toxic truly remarkable is how masterfully manipulated the reader's perspective is. The story forces you to sit uncomfortably inside a unreliable narrator’s mind, constantly questioning what is real and what is delusion, and just when you think you have your footing, the rug is pulled out from under you. It's a bold, unflinching exploration of toxic family dynamics, mental health, and the terrifying consequences of unchecked perception. Compact yet devastatingly effective, this story will sit in your brain long after its final page.

This is an intense, deep dive into
a demented, paranoid mind. It makes you wonder just what we can convince ourselves of and how far desperation can take a person. It bring new meaning to the phrase "that escalated quickly"!

I enjoyed this short story. Paige's mom is controlling and toxic. She's had enough and wants it to come to an end...

A truly gripping short story.
Toxic by Rachel Graham is an incredible psychological thriller of a quick read.
Paige who is convinced her attention seeking mother is controlling and jealous of her and also resentful of her.
Moving to a neighbourhood Paige hates, she comes under the illusion her mother has plans for her demise.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read, it had me hooked.

Toxic packs a surprising punch for such a short story. The relationship between Paige and her mother is tense, uncomfortable, and painfully real. The kind of toxicity that doesn’t scream but slowly wears you down. What really works is how unclear the lines are. You think you see the villain right away, but the story makes you question that assumption as it unfolds.

For such a brief read, it leaves you sitting with big questions about blame, damage, and how deeply family dynamics can shape who we become. It’s sharp, unsettling, and lingers longer than expected. A short story that proves less can absolutely be more.

Lilypond Lane is no stranger to strange things. When Paige and her mother move to the street after Paige's mental health breaks down, the family will never be the same again.

Yet another amazing read by Rachel Graham. I couldn't put this one down!
