I went into this one with zero expectations—having completely forgotten what it was about between accepting the ARC and picking it up—but hot diggity, am I grateful to my past self.
Set in a small Irish town, this serial killer murder mystery was everything I didn’t know I needed. From the start, it gave me strong Mindhunter vibes (a very good thing), and once I got going, sleep was clearly optional—I was reading well into the wee hours.
I love a story that dives deep into the psychology of a serial killer, and pairing that with a tight-knit small-town setting is catnip for me. The characters were well developed, the pacing was fast without feeling rushed, and the mystery unfolded in a way that kept me fully hooked.
This was a compulsive, atmospheric read, and it officially put L.J. Ross on my “read more immediately” list.

“Imposter” by L. J. Ross is a dark and suspenseful thriller with a gripping murder mystery at its core. Dr. Alexander Gregory is a complex, haunted character whose rare gift makes him both invaluable and vulnerable. Twisty, psychological, and utterly addictive—I couldn’t put it down.
