Sometimes horror doesn’t whisper—it claws, bites, and leaves you sick to your stomach. That’s what Hivetown does from page one.

The story drops you into a nightmarish place where people—especially men—are stripped of their power and turned into drones for the twisted pleasures of their captors. Trevor, the unfortunate drone, and others are forced into unspeakable acts, from sexual exploitation to reproduction against their will. It’s brutal, unflinching, and refuses to let you look away.

What the book sets out to do, it does well: disturb you. It’s graphic, gory, sexually violent, and unapologetically transgressive. For me, though, the resonance wasn’t there. The horror felt more punishing than immersive, and while the writing is concrete and sharp, the subject matter made it hard for me to connect beyond the shock. That said, I don’t think it’s a bad book—it’s simply not my type of story.

One thing that stood out was how Thomas Stewart himself leaned into the extremity of the work—he joked with me, “I hope you plan on hugging your commode for the next several weeks.” He wasn’t wrong. This isn’t horror you read comfortably; it’s horror that makes you sweat, cringe, and maybe even gag.
