After finding his father dead Louis and his family find out that his dad had a whole house that he’d kept secret from his family. Louis wonders why. After losing their home in New York they find themselves moving to this house. Little do they know his dad kept the house a secret because of the dark shadows lurking about.
Louis learns about the folklore behind his new found home from his new neighbors, his dad’s childhood best friend, and the towns “Auntie” who lives alone down on the salt marsh.
The story takes you on the journey as Louis learns more about the “Boo-Hag” as it’s called in his new town, and that it has been haunting his new house for decades and that’s how his grandparents passed away and why his dad ran and never told them about the house. At first Louis doesn’t believe in the stories he’s hearing and chalks it up to what it is in his mind just the town’s folklore.
Then Ruby his little sister claims the Boo-Hag came for her. Louis though believes she just had another asthma attack. Until Louis see’s the Boo-Hag himself.
He then ventures into trying to figure out how to kill the Boo-Hag. Takes his time in doing so until one night the Boo-Hag had yet again come for Ruby but unfortunately this time the Boo-Hag succeeded and Ruby is gone.
Louis, his mom and the neighbors witness his mom’s shitty ex-boyfriend die right in front of them after falling from the second story inside the house. Louis believes it was at the hands of the Boo-Hag.
The story ends with Louis, Phoebe, and Chris with the help of Auntie Caroline killing the Boo-Hag once and for all.
