Six strangers arrive at the home of preeminent puzzle master Alexei Vasiliev for the reading of his will. Among them are the deceased's widow, who'd already begun divorce proceedings, a virologist troubled by actions in his past, and a convicted murderer on day leave.

Six strangers are invited to a will reading at the home of a preeminent puzzle master. The will turns into a series of puzzles with a grand prize of $150M for the winner. With someone watching their every move, can they survive the puzzle house and claim the prize?

The book starts off strong for me and I found myself connecting with the characters. However, as the story went on I found my attention drifting and a few times I realized I had missed a scene and I had to skip back. I listened to the audiobook, so it’s possible I would have done better with a physical copy.

The story feels complex, but the ending did not land for me after all the buildup. It felt rushed compared to the rest of the story and didn’t really pay off.
