ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tommy Legs by Tom Henderson

First things first: thank you, Tom, for trusting me with an ARC. That’s never something I take lightly. Genuinely appreciated.

Now for the honest part. The slightly uncomfortable, no-sugarcoating, this-is-just-my-brain part.

I struggled a bit getting into this one. Not because it’s bad—let’s get that straight right now. It isn’t. But this book and my inner twisted chaos goblin weren’t always on the same wavelength. And my reviews are personal. Always.

Our main character is a vet, and boy… do we know he’s a vet. There’s a lot of veterinary work, anatomy talk, procedures, tools, cows needing attention—things that are undoubtedly interesting and well-researched, just… not what I’m personally hunting for when I open a murder mystery. Those sections felt like they took up more space than I wanted, and my attention wandered off to lie down somewhere dramatic.

Structurally, my chaotic brain also had to work overtime. One moment he’s being interrogated (which I loved—give me more of that), then we’re off examining livestock, then suddenly we’re deep in diary entries from his pregnant wife, then we’re back to family moments with his daughter. It’s a lot. Not bad, just… a mental pinball machine.

Okay. Deep breath. Enough grumbling.

Because here’s the thing: the humor? On point. The sarcasm? Delicious. Dry, sharp, and exactly my kind of thing. And the plot—no spoilers, don’t worry—but damn. That was clever. Original. Smart in a way that made me mentally nod like, okay, I see you. That twisty brainpower absolutely made up for the chaos it took me to get there.

So if you’re looking for a murder mystery that dares to be different, isn’t afraid to be a little weird, mixes darkness with humor, and has a genuinely clever core—this one is worth your time.

Just maybe don’t leave it lying around on some abandoned farm.

Pick it up. Read it. And let it confuse you a little before it wins you over.
