I really wanted to love this one, but I just didn't.
First off, Brody constantly plays the wrong side of too pushy and in one intimate scene even totally ignores Clara saying no. I should have stopped reading there because it didn't really get any better.
He keeps pushing her and rushing her (while saying he's not). When she gets into a hint of trouble he immediately gets more violent than he needs to and later in the book we get a hint that this is not abnormal for him when he and his brothers fly into town in the back of their pick-up ready to 'chase someone out of town' (again)
It all just feels slightly too far and maybe his momma needed to rein him in just a little more.
But the real kicker for me was the very last bit - this whole book is about a guy with a wife who died in childbirth - then he's so happy to get to parent Clara's kid blah blah blah. Fine. Good, he can be a decent father.
Then he drops the line to her that he wants another kid! As a man who has lived through the possible repercussions of childbirth his first instinct on marrying a new woman is "lets get you pregnant'
No.
Absolutely not Brody Pace. Ewww.
How to tell a man doesn't really care about women 101. I hope Clara runs away.
Also - that would have been less horrible if maybe we had a bonus epilogue with her safely having a baby? IDK but with that as the ending I will stay far away from the rest of this series and the questionable Pace 'men'.
