Vows of Gold and Laughter
"Desperation drives them. But can four lonely immortals stop a war between gods - or will blood rain from the Heavens? Literally as old as dirt, Bai was the first immortal. So it fell upon him to check the Sun Emperor’s excesses. But he was no match for the ruler of the gods and hid away with the key to the Underworld. The Goddess of Beauty needs that key. Her father, the Sun Emperor, is fatally cursed, and her siblings do naught but squabble over his throne. Others consider her useless, but she is determined to travel to the Underworld and find the cure. The God of Pleasure vows to protect her and prove himself a worthy mate - even though everyone laughs at him. How can a hopeless alcoholic offer protection from anything but sobriety? But Nanami has sworn to help him with his addiction. The world’s second best thief and the disowned daughter of the Sea Dragon, she has a lot of practice ignoring the mockery of others. Will this odd band learn to trust each other in time? Or will their secrets send them to the Underworld... forever?"--

If you like fantasy and Asian mythology you will absolutely love Vows of Gold and Laughter it has all that and more. The characters are likeable and the setting in my mind was so beautiful, it was described very well.
Jin Goddess of Beauty and Xiao God of Pleasure (yes, he likes to please) is celebrating their betrothal, the moment the vows are made the Sun Emperor is struck down with a death curse.
Jin and Xiao need to break the curse but it won’t be easy, and in this book, we follow their journey to retrieve the cure.
I enjoyed the storyline a lot. I did get confused with the names and who was who because some of the names sounded very similar in the audiobook. However, that did not detract me.
A great debut and I am excited to read more from the author.
