The Therapist An absolutely gripping psychological thriller

Everyone thinks they can trust their therapist. We are good listeners. But what if we’re good liars, too?

The therapist: I love my job. People tell me their worries, their fears. Then Sandy becomes my patient. Something about her tears as she cries about her husband doesn’t feel right. But I tell her she can trust me. I promise to keep her secrets… for now.

The patient: I never should have married Mike. My head is a mess. All I want is for someone to listen. At least I can trust my therapist – she believes everything I say. And I’m going to show the world exactly what my dear husband is really like.

The husband: We used to be so happy. I just want my smiling, beautiful wife back. I was glad when Sandy signed up for therapy. But one day, Sandy doesn’t come home. I’m frantic. Then her therapist knocks on the door and says we need to talk… what has Sandy told her about our marriage?

Someone is missing. Someone is in danger. Someone is a liar. Who will you believe?

A completely unputdownable psychological thriller that will leave you not knowing who to believe, from million-copy bestselling Nicole Trope. Anyone who loves Shari Lapena or Lisa Jewell will be totally addicted!

The Therapist by Nicole Trope

This one hooked me right from the start. It’s one of those books that pulls you in quietly, without needing to throw in cheap twists every five minutes. Sure, it was a bit predictable—I kind of saw where it was heading—but honestly, that didn’t even matter. The ride itself was worth it.

Nicole Trope knows exactly how to play with emotions. The tension, the fear, the confusion, the constant second-guessing of what’s real and what’s not… it’s all there, simmering just under the surface. The pace is quick, the feelings are real, and you can’t help but get pulled into the chaos of it all.

What I loved most is how it reminds you that things aren’t always what they seem. People wear masks, stories twist, and sometimes the truth hides in plain sight. It’s unsettling in that subtle, realistic way—not because it’s shocking, but because it could happen.

And when I closed the book, I kept thinking: why are we so eager to trust everyone around us, even strangers, but ignore our own gut feeling? Like, why is it easier to believe anyone but yourself?
