Special Agent Strong is back in the second instalment of the Clara Strong series. Welz Bailey has again absolutely excelled with another mind-blowing and well-crafted criminal investigation.
This time she’s in Alexandria, Louisiana, with a new partner, Carlos Ferendez. What starts out as a missing person’s case spirals into a web of lies so intricate it will make your head spin! The twists and turns keep coming in this heart-pounding, action-packed thriller!
We know Clara so well now in book two that she feels like a friend we are all supporting. This is one of the strongest storylines I’ve had the pleasure of devouring so far this year. I cannot wait for book 3!

This is the second book in the Clara Strong series and I didn’t know how Welz did it, but Clara still feels fresh and in charge. She is human like us and has her own struggles, which helps us connect with the story even more. There’s nothing worse than a main character who feels like Superman and is perfect. Clara is far from perfect. With each clue and interview that Clara has, we’re pulled deeper and deeper into the story. I didn’t want to put it down! I had to help Clara find the boys!
Yet again, Welz has the ability to draw a scene so clearly that you feel like you’re standing in Louisiana with the characters. She is a master at keeping the tension going and giving just enough clues to make you try to piece it all together without giving anything away. I can’t wait for more Special Agent Clara Strong!
This is an excellent continuation of Clara’s story that can easily be read as a standalone if you haven’t read The Pawn yet (and if you haven’t, why not?). I highly recommend it.

Welz has become one of my favorite authors.
Call Me Jacob is such a phenomenal sequel to The Pawn. The sadness and such truth behind this novel is something that will draw you in and not let go. Clara and the FBI team are all such awesome and relatable characters. Each one carries their own baggage that tugs at your heart strings but also feels so natural. Heartbreak is all over this one from start to finish Welz grabs hold and keeps you consistently turning pages. I can't wait for book 3.

Another excellent read from Welz Bailey! I felt the growing tension, especially in the scenes involving the teenagers, probably because I have a son myself. The writing put me on edge and I had to keep reading to find out what happened to all the characters involved. It was nice to see Clara back in action and there are some fantastic twists in the story, too. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes next. Highly recommended!
