Pieces of Halves (Demons and Angels) (Demons and Angels Series Book 2)

Another wonderful ARC read for May for me. Feel very fortunate to have been able to read so many fabulous books recently before the official release - I am a lucky book girl.

This is a dark fantasy romance, there are content warnings so PLEASE ensure you read them before you read the book.

Vampires, Demons, Witches, Angels and even some Fae thrown in too, this book is a unique take on a classic strangers to lovers romance where they will burn the world down to protect each other.

I am officially in love with Jacob, the half demon MMC. The way he rescues then protects and cares for Izzy instantly is just heart-warmingly beautiful. He is dealing with his own life drama but is willing to push it all aside for a girl he sees across the market place looking scared (very Aladdin of him)

His backstory is full of emotion and trauma that has created the man you see before you. I think it just shows that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and this also applies to Izzy's character too, who's backstory is equally, if not more painful.

Izzy, the half vampire, half angel FMC, battles trauma inflicted by an asshole father and coming to terms with her powers and own being brilliantly. Her strength, despite what she has gone through is something to behold in itself. The thought processes she goes through throughout the story are intense and I think this gives us a stronger connection to who she is rather than what she is.

The way Jacob looks past the vampire stereotype that's been set out and wants to make sure she is safe and calm while also trying to find out more about his own lineage is what book boyfriends are truly made of. His amusement at the way Izzy just is makes you see the deep emotions he feels for her. He's the kind of man that enjoys seeing his woman happy no matter what it is that gets her there.

Hayes has done a stunning job building strong characters and an original story that will get it's hooks into you from the start. I am looking forward to continuing the journey with Jacob and Izzy as well as reading Adrian and Rosie's story.

Great story, great characters, great plot - just the right amount of tension and distrust to keep you guessing with some of the characters too. Perfect amount of spice with nice kink exploration as well as an interesting 'twist' on the spicy dynamic of a Pleasure Dom.

I give this a 4.5 star rating and 3.5 chilli's due to the more kink orientated spice.

I recommend you go read this book if you love dark romantasy and hot demonic MMC's :)
