Maggie Wise will take your eyes. Children can be the most cruel, and Malcolm spent his childhood being tormented with this line over and over. He did his best to ignore it, but the locals (and their children) all believed his mother was a witch. Time eventually catches up with Maggie, and on her deathbed she makes a very usual request. She makes him promise to bury her in her hometown within 2 days. As soon as she takes her last breath, dark forces awaken and attempt to stop Malcolm from fulfilling his promise.

From the start, I wasn't sure what I had gotten myself into with this one. The story builds slowly with us joining Malcolm at his mother's side as she is dying. It doesn't take long for the first mysterious visitor to turn up and kick things off. Once we're introduced to the characters, the story builds quickly and brutally. Once the action starts, the story really takes off. I really enjoyed the pacing once the story picked up, and I definitely will be picking up more from this author. It was a great find at the library!
