Axl is a phenomenal writer.
For me COVID based books are difficult to read. Having been front and center with it as an RT I have deep rooted emotions about it. Cries of Joy was a good read but I did find myself so frustrated with Anna. Just pure blindness for the character. I took many breaks with this book. Sometimes I would pick it up and couldn't put it down other times I would be so annoyed and frustrated I had to put it down. The emotions run high, the heartache is real. I often wondered if this was a true tale because COVID really did bring out the insanity in people. Lockdown wasn't friendly to anyone and the idea that people could really break down mentally like Graham is 100% a possibility. I would recommend this book without hesitation.
Trigger warning ⚠️
Abuse, Rape, animal cruelty.
