In social media, nothing is what it seems ... Tyesha Fenty is a beautiful 22-year-old mother of one very precocious little girl-and an unashamed internet addict. Between taking care of her daughter and posting updates about her life via the Web, Tyesha stresses over love and family. The father of her child is a spiritually devout drug dealer named Rodrick Al-Bashir who has a thing for other women. And her mother, Velma Fenty, is a widowed hoarder on the verge of losing her house. Stalking is the least of Tyesha's worries, until one of her social media "friends" starts showing up at her gym, at her job, and at her home. Soon tragedy strikes, and when detectives catch her stalker-and just as quickly release him-Tyesha is forced to take matters into her own hands. Be careful what you post ... he's watching ...

Such an easy read. But sorry to say, this book is too exhausting to enjoy. If you are up for accompaniment reads, turning pages while expecting nothing from it, this book still suits your preference. But if you are a reader who looks for transformative reads, just like me, let me tell you, the way this story is told does not have much to impress.
The premise is actually good. I can see that the author has a point to prove. The book is about Tyesha, a 22 year old mama who is an Internet addict. On a social media platform similar to Facebook, she posts everything in her life as statuses and ends up having to deal with a stalker at the gym, at her job, and even at her own home.
This premise delivers a message, right? It warns everyone to be aware of what you post on your socials. But the character and conflict development, regardless of the stalker part, is completely off. Protagonist, antagonist, none. The major characters are adults, but they are all mentally stuck in high school. They are just older in age. And the conflicts all come from unfinished high school events and revenge. I am like, hello, can it not be more creative and impressively made?
And this “Status” book title also refers to marital statuses, apparently. First, it shows Tyesha’s relationship with Rodrick Al Bashir, a devout spiritual drug dealer. Afterwards, you will see Deja Michelle, Tyesha’s bestie who has an affair with Rodrick. Deja has liked him since high school, and she also holds hidden revenge against Tyesha starting from high school. The next character to show is Gideon, Deja’s husband and Rodrick’s business partner. He has been obsessed with Tyesha since high school and later decides to kidnap Tyesha’s daughter. Oh my Goooooddd!!!
Question for the author:
Why does Rodrick’s name in some chapters change to Rodrick Brown? Is his last name supposed to be Al Bashir? Anyway, I kinda like this Rodrick character. His religious wannabe persona is just ridiculous.
