Small Mercies

Fantastic read. 1974 in South Boston's Irish neighborhood and the central character, Mary Pat lives in a housing project with her daughter Jules and is embroiled in the desegregation that is being forced upon the neighborhood as black kids will be bussed into her white Irish neighborhood school and her kid will be bussed into the black neighborhood for school for her senior year. It's a tumultuous time, made worse by mobsters and the hatred and bigotry that is ingrained in all that seem to live in this neighborhood of Southies.
