As a massive nerd about the War of the Roses and the Tudors, I delved into this book and I was not disappointed. Philippa Gregory's portrayal of Elizabeth Woodville gave life to one of history's often unseen or misunderstood women.

I loved the relationship between Edward and Elizabeth, especially at the beginning. They had a true loving bond, something rare for that time period and the love for their children was powerful. The parts about Elizabeth and her children living in sanctuary while Edward was off fighting had me in my feels as a mom. Elizabeth showed bravery in the face of uncertainty, showing her daughters (particularly Elizabeth of York) that women could handle what life threw at them.
