Moth's Flame

What happens when your enemy saves your life?
Nothing. She still needs to pay.

Moth

At thirteen, she killed my brother.
At twenty eight, she stopped me from jumping off a bridge, despite not knowing who I was under the helmet.
She doesn't know that I'm back to claim my revenge.
Her debt isn't even halfway to being paid.
Which is why I'm watching her and biding my time.
Except, she sees me first and begs me to help her with her stalker ex.
How can I refuse when it makes my plan for vengeance easier?

Alia

At thirteen, I made the worst decision of my life.
At twenty eight, I stopped a biker in a helmet from taking his life.
He's mysterious, brooding and knows me somehow.
I should run away from the addictive pull towards him, especially when I find out who he is.
Except, as much as I hate him, Moth is the only person who is strong enough to help me with my evil ex.
There's two men who have a vendetta against me, but I'm only interested in one.

We're enemies, we're angry, we're addicted.

Moth's Flame

★★★★★

“I know how it feels to lose someone this way.” Panting, I put my hands on my hips. “So, I can’t let you to do it.” -Alia to Moth

“I won’t hurt you,” he said, keeping his stance neutral. “I promise. However, I need to go now... and I need you to forget about me.” -Moth to Alia

“Get on!” Moth shouted, bringing the rear of his bike closer to me. “And hold fucking tight.” -Moth to Alia

“You're playing with dynamite,” he hissed -Moth to Alia

Moth’s Flame exhibits emotions from passion, disdain and loyalty as seen from the above quotes from the book. Wilde hooks you with these types of quotes, drawing you and immersing you in the lives of her characters. I could continue to post more quotes, but then I would just be posting the entirety of the book and well, you just need to read this brilliant work of literary genius.

Lyra Wilde exhibits clear knowledge of what a Dark Romance should be when it comes to her novel Moth’s Flame.  Taking the trope of enemies-to-lovers to new levels, she mixes in childhood and adult trauma, stalkers, manipulation, child abuse, growth and self-discovery to create a fascinating story that leaves readers longing for more.  Oh, and we can’t forget about the naughty bits of spice she tosses in there as well.

Lyra Wilde’s book, Moth’s Flame, showcases her deep understanding of the Dark Romance genre.  She elevates the enemies-to-lovers trope by weaving in themes of childhood and adult trauma, stalking, manipulation, and self-discovery, creating a captivating narrative that leaves readers eager for more.  And let’s not forget the spicy moments that add to the intrigue!

The story centers on Alia Brown (FMC), bookstore owner and trauma survivor from her brother’s suicide two years ago, along with the current threat of her stalking ex.  Then there’s Moth, a hardened biker with a troubled past and a vow of vengeance.  Their lives collide when Alia prevents Moth from jumping off a bride, completely unaware that she just saved the man who once swore revenge against her.

Moth finds himself grappling with the haunting question: Why did it have to be Alia?  Initially wanting her gone, he is forced to protect her when the stalking ex appears, drawing him into a complex dynamic that flips the typical enemies-to-lovers story on its head.  Wilde adds depth by presenting the characters’ childhood traumas as they resonate into their adult lives.  While this theme may have been explored before, Wilde’s portrayal resonates powerfully, helping readers relate to both Moth and Alia.  I would love to go into more detail, but by doing so I would end up giving out spoilers and that, I will not do!

Wilde’s skill in character development shines through in Moth’s Flame.  She creates a rich tapestry of characters imbued with emotion and trauma, making them relatable and immersive for the reader.  The depth she gives to Moth and Alia, as well as the supporting characters, allows for genuine empathy as they navigate their painful pasts.  Through her vivid descriptions, readers are drawn into the scenes, experiencing the world alongside the characters.  For instance, Alia’s bookstore is not just a setting but a living part of the story, vividly portrayed to evoke the atmosphere and emotions of each encounter.

While the novel addresses sensitive topics like childhood trauma and abuse, these discussions are handled delicately and discreetly being able to focus on character growth rather than victimhood.  Readers should be aware that while these issues are present, they are explored with such care rather than being graphically depicted in order to engage readers in the story.

While not overly twisty, the plot of Moth’s flame maintains an undercurrent of suspense and mystery that keeps readers engaged.  Most of the foundational questions are answered early on, but the anticipation of future revelations ensures an exciting and gripping experience throughout.

Lyra Wilde is an engaging author who expertly combines suspense and romance, offering readers a glimpse into the darker aspects of love infused with the psychological thrills.  If you have enjoyed dark romance with a psychological edge in the past, then I highly recommend Moth’s Flame, the first in the Vengeance Unhinged series – you won’t regret picking it up!
