What's Left of Us (What Left)
The road to happiness is paved in broken dreams.
From Free Roads
Back in custody, but not behind bars, the future looks bleak for Alastair when faced with his impending doom. Robbed of something new, he’ll contend with the ramifications of his decisions long before the bars of his prison cell close once again. With the new suspect stirring up drama, and throwing all the previous documentation about the Citrus Grove Slayer into question, does he really deserve to die for all these wrongs? Left to the judgment of others, his sentencing may be delivered in ways unexpected. Unable to release their grip on the past, Jo and Vinny remain in Citrus Grove, their connection to both Alastair and Sterling cemented in their souls. Their lives might be built in Colorado, but their hearts linger in Florida.
To Death Row
Life isn’t tied up with a neat little bow at the end of our time. Faced with the fallout of the CGS, what remains of a group bound by trauma and love? Justice can’t be served if the sentence is wrongfully carried out, and Jo won’t be able to move on without facing the ghost of her past. All the secrets surrounding her mother’s life will come full circle, and she’ll have to handle what it means to look evil in the face. When the only road left is a lonely path for our married couple back in the mountains, will it lead to happiness or despair?
A dark romance, slow burn, why choose MFMM trilogy. The ending is meant to be happy, but the path there is paved in misery and woe. Not all forevers are the picture perfect dream. This trilogy needs to be read in order.

What’s Left of Us- Book 3
~H.N. DeFore
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rating: 5 out of 5.
A little spice, a lot of spice, and a full-throttle psychological thrill ride – What’s Left of Us delivers everything fans of the series have been waiting for… and then some.
Picking up right where Book Two left off, Jo and Vinny remain in Florida, while Porscha and Alistair are back in custody and the FBI scrambles to piece together the chaos. I’m skipping my usual synopsis here – not because it’s lacking, but because there’s simply too much at risk of spoiling the explosive end to this trilogy. Just know: every page counts.
Alistair remains reluctant to drag Jo through more trauma, even if that means hiding parts of the past. But Jo? She’s ready to fight. She’s had enough, and if it means taking Porscha down once and for all, so be it. Agent Gideon stands with her, and Vinny – loyal, fierce Vinny – is prepared to protect her no matter what it costs.
Now, I’m about to make a bold statement, and I stand by it: H.N. DeFore has delivered a masterclass in character creation with this trilogy.**Mic drop**
From page one of Book One to the final line in What’s Left of Us, I’ve lived with these characters – Jo, Vinny, Alistair, Porscha, and Sterling. They are raw, layered, and fully realized. DeFore doesn’t just write trauma, love, and grief – she makes you feel every fractured, healing piece of it.
This isn’t a typical romance. This is a messy, painful, deeply human journey filled with PTSD, self-discovery, love, betrayal, and, ultimately, resolution. Does that mean we get a happy ending? Not necessarily. But we do get the ending we need. And DeFore leaves no stone unturned.
Even better? This is not the last we see of Jo and Vinny. According to the author, they appear in future books centered around their club – so this might not be “The End of Them” (Haley, I want credit if you use that title!
