3.5 rounding up
I really enjoyed Malice House, so finding out there was a sequel set directly following was exciting. But this one was slow for me, too slow until maybe the last third. For so much of the book Haven and Kylie (who spent mot of her time annoying me) didn't really know what was going on, though you knew something bigger was happening around them so the first half-2/3 felt a big stagnant while they attempted to work it out, but it was more family drama than monster chasing (more on this later)
The last third was fun, getting to see the monsters and figuring them out was what I'd hoped the whole book would be. I did miss Pinchy :(
The chapter opening screenplay snippets were really fun, reminding me what I loved from book one (the story snippets in that one)
I did enjoy getting to know Rob better, and Rafe has been a favorite since he first appeared on the page.
However, when we get to the final act and find outMiracle and Joao had been hunting monsters all along I felt like I missed out and that following them would have been so much more fun.
But anyway, a worthwhile read for fans of book one, I assume there will be a third and I'll give it a go, hoping to see Miracle and Haven teaming up for what I'd hoped to see in this one.
