When Merri and Dev buy a ticket to win a dream house in the Lake District, they never in a million years think they will win, but as luck has it, they do, and while Dev is elated, Merri is more reserved. Is it really a dream come true, or is it a nightmare waiting to happen?
Merri had a tough life growing up, losing her mum and sister, but she seems to have turned her life around, with husband Dev by her side. Although she has not told him her deepest secret yet. Even though we learn there is a secret early on, it isn’t revealed fully until near the end of the book.
As the book progresses, we get points of view from “The Watcher” Merri and Dev, but we also get a glimpse of what happened with Merri when she was a child and a teen.
The dream house sounds absolutely gorgeous; the setting and the scenery were so vivid in my mind while reading this. I liked Merri and Dev’s characters, but I was not sure about anyone else in the story until the end.
This was suspenseful and quite chilling at times. K.L. Slater can certainly write a good psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout.
I was hooked as always and cannot wait to read more from one of my favourite authors.
