The Notebook meets Children of the Corn.
There is probably a better comparison but that's what entered my mind as I read. Two people who should never have meet with everything around them trying to keep them apart. The town holds secrets. Newcomers are not given a welcome mat. You feel the looming darkness, shadows watching from the cracks around town. Oliver's shoulders heavy with weight from entering the town he has tried to forget. That weight is conveyed to the reader with each description pulling you in. I was turning pages quickly. There is gore but it adds to story that there is a lurking shadow in this town that wants their secrets and lives undisturbed.
