2.5 rounding *down* (yup, that's what we're doing here) - because I finished it, and if all the (attempts at) romance was cut, it would have been a fun mystery.

This wasn't romance. Not even a little. Even putting aside the issue with poor Will created and 'loved' against his will, there was zero chemistry between them. None. And none with poor Christopher either. Angelika, as a romance leading lady was horrible (as a cooky mad scientist—she could have been great fun.) But that was not in the cards for her as the romance aspect was forced on us as much as it was on doomed Will.

I have LOVED Sally Thorne's other books, my local library was asking folks to check out loads of books to help with a renovations move, so when this was the last Thorne title on the shelf I grabbed it.

Now I know why it was left. Sally Thorne, please stay in your lane.

The weird old-timey omniscient pov this book is in was irksome at best, boring at worst as we head-hopped between characters willy-nilly.

It gets the stars it gets because if you told me this was a lighthearted cozy horror I might have enjoyed it (if maybe we cut some p3nis references? Please Angelika, stop telling us how pleased with his p3nis you are. ick)

If we could simply have had a story about Angelika coming out of her brother's shadow, learning to be a better person and helping Will figure out his past (Adam too perhaps) I would have been all about this book. Maybe I can pretend that's what it was. forget the epilogue, forget the last few chapters even and glaze over any paragraph containing bits of anatomy... hmmm yes maybe I can create my (book) match.
