The Defender (The Hidden Truth Series)

I didn’t lose everything overnight.
Someone dismantled my life piece by piece.
One day I was a trusted contract attorney on the verge of a career-defining case. The next, I was fired—quietly, without explanation, and with no chance to fight back.
Desperate for income, I agree to defend seventeen-year-old Riley Collins, accused of murder. I’m not a criminal defense attorney. But the evidence is thin. The boy swears he’s innocent. And I need this case.
Then the cracks begin to show.
Witnesses change their stories. Evidence disappears. Riley’s mother knows more than she’s saying.
And the deeper I dig, the more certain I become—this case isn’t random.
It’s personal.
Someone is manipulating the truth. Someone who knows my weaknesses. Someone who may have destroyed my career to put me exactly where they want me.
Now I have to decide how far I’m willing to go to uncover what’s really happening… before the next life ruined is mine.
Because in this courtroom, innocence isn’t about facts.
It’s about who’s pulling the strings.

Nothing like being fired from you job and framed for something you did not do.
Coming into work at the firm he was giving his everything for, Ben Scovil is fired for supposedly leaking a memo in a high-profile case.
From that point on, the plot thickens. He meets up with a someone at a bar who hands over a case that is really strange in that a teenager is being accused of murdering and then burning a fellow female student.
With a mother who seems to be a different person each time he meets her, to detectives who only look at one suspect, the twists and turns keep coming.
And you will not believe the ending. Something that really gives you the feeling that there is more to come.
A great story and a fabulous writer.
