Lilliana has been running her entire adult life. Running from her past and the demons that haunt her nightmares. Well, who knew that Ice Hockey could have such darkness surrounding it. This book was fantastic; I could not put it down and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to read it before release day.
I would definitely describe this book as dark so please ensure you read the content warnings – they are there for a reason!
So, first things first, the characters. Our 3 MCs are beautifully written, with well thought out and explained back stories to the point that we know enough about them, but it doesn’t take over the book.
Lilliana Pettersen, Lily, daughter of a famous hockey player and a stuck-up society type, worked her ass off to get where she is but has dark secrets and problems with anxiety because of her past.
Noah Kolgrim, rookie for the Southern Storm, completely in love with Lily and very golden retriever vibes.
Dmitri Volkkon, Dom, the Raging Russian, newest player for the Southern Storm, went to school with Lily, knows all her dark secrets and is completely obsessed with her and keeping her safe.
The initial dynamic is exactly what you’d expect, stalker ex, unsure whether she can trust anyone again FMC and the man who she falls for and genuinely makes her happy.
The twists in this story are unexpected and you find yourself loving then hating then loving the characters over multiple chapters. There were times I just wanted to shake Lily and tell her to stop being stupid, where I wanted to smack Dom in his smug face and where I wanted to scream at Noah for not thinking before he acted. However, the way Lo brings the 3 of them together and changes the goalposts for their relationship is wonderful to watch develop.
There is some delicious tension throughout this book between all the characters and there are definitely moments I was audibly gasping.
The spice in this book is high, it’s an MFM/MMF poly-romance with a couple of MM scenes thrown in for good measure. There are levels of kink and voyeurism, as well as some slightly darker spice included as well. I thought it was fabulous and recommend sitting on a towel to read this one
