I'm giving this one 3.5 stars. I had really high hopes for it so I'll round up. I think this one was more mystery than horror for me. The kids poking around the old asylum areas were cool but really not all that spooky. The first two thirds were also a bit slow for me, with lots of day to day stuff that still felt surface level. It felt like there was a lot of backstory that was hinted at but not really gone into. The ending was more intense but some of it kind of seemed to come out of left field as a way to tie things up more neatly than would have seemed possible.
overall, an interesting, well written stroy if you are into urban exploring and YA drama, but not something that will keep you up at night. I probably won't be picking up the sequel.
