I saw this book on KU and decided to add it to my weekend reading... This book is emotional, infuriating and confusing.
The FMC Mira is helped by the notorious White Lion after an incident that isn't really explained beyond there was violence and death. The gangster is tender despite his reputation and ensures Mira's healing.
We then have an abrupt flashback to Mira's abusive and triggering childhood. Mira's attempts to defend her mother and brothers is rebuffed by both parents and she resolves to escape eventually.
The idea of the plot was good but the execution left much to be desired. I was infuriated with the adults that should have been better caretakers of Mira and her siblings. Some parts are difficult so be ready the trigger warnings on the second page.
The Master Planner is the first of the series and a quick novella so I'll probably give the second book a chance so it hopefully clears up the confusion
