5 stars | The Anniversary by Alex Finlay
I listened to this one on audio and honestly? That’s exactly how I wanted to experience it — and I have zero regrets.
The structure of this book is chef’s kiss. Every year on May 1st, you get another piece of Jules and Quinn’s story, and the way Finlay doles out those reveals year by year is just so satisfying. You’re constantly getting answers while simultaneously getting more questions, and it creates this momentum that makes it basically impossible to stop listening.
The characters were everything. Jules and Quinn are fully realized, emotionally rich people that you become completely invested in — I genuinely cared about what happened to them both. And the storyline? Phenomenal doesn’t even cover it. I did pick up on one of the twists early, but here’s the thing — it didn’t even matter. Because the way it all played out, plus everything else Finlay had cooking? There was SO much more story to unpack that it just kept getting better.
I absolutely devoured this and would recommend it to every thriller lover without hesitation.
Alex Finlay is officially on my auto-buy list. If you haven’t started reading him yet, this is your sign. 📖🖤

What an intense trip! “The Anniversary” by Alex Finlay kept me completely hooked from start to finish. The suspense is relentless, and the mystery surrounding the May Day Killer—who returns every May 1 to claim another female victim—adds an eerie, chilling edge to the story. Finlay delivered shocking twists that left me reeling. This book is packed with secrets, mystery, and tension, making it impossible to put down. A must-read for thriller lovers!
