Marion by Leah Rowan — 3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐✨

okay so when I started this one I was fully convinced it was going to be a 5 star read. the premise pulled me in immediately and I was so ready for it.

and then… it just never quite got there for me.

I loved how Psycho was woven into the story — that Norman Bates element was genuinely so fun and creepy and exactly what I was hoping for more of. I think that’s kind of my whole review in a nutshell — I just needed MORE. more suspense, more twists, more story. it felt like it had all the right ingredients and then kind of leveled out when I wanted it to escalate.

that said, if you’re a thriller or horror reader this is absolutely still worth picking up. the vibe is there, the concept is solid, and I don’t regret a single page. it just left me a little hungry for what it could have been.

What a fun reimaging for Psycho! I guess we finally have an idea what would have happened if the shower scene had gone a little differently. I enjoyed the back and forth between the POVs, and as the story unfolded I got more and more into it.

I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, but this one really wasn’t for me.

From the start, it felt less like a thriller and more like a story with a very clear agenda. The portrayal of men came across as overwhelmingly negative, to the point where it felt exaggerated and distracting. I’m all for strong female characters and stories where women take control, but this felt unbalanced and, at times, a bit over the top.

I also struggled to find anything to latch onto in the story. None of the characters felt likable or even particularly compelling, which made it hard to stay invested. What should have been a tense, suspenseful premise never quite delivered that feeling for me.

The idea behind the book is interesting, especially as a reimagining, but the execution just didn’t match the description or my expectations. I’m sure this will resonate with some readers, but it definitely wasn’t my cup of tea.
