The Crash

A brand new psychological thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden!

The nightmare she's running from is nothing compared to where she's headed.

Tegan is eight months pregnant, alone, and desperately wants to put her crumbling life in the rearview mirror. So she hits the road, planning to stay with her brother until she can figure out her next move. But she doesn't realize she's heading straight into a blizzard.

She never arrives at her destination.

Stranded in rural Maine with a dead car and broken ankle, Tegan worries she's made a terrible mistake. Then a miracle occurs: she is rescued by a couple who offers her a room in their warm cabin until the snow clears.

But something isn't right. Tegan believed she was waiting out the storm, but as time ticks by, she comes to realize she is in grave danger. This safe haven isn't what she thought it was, and staying here may have been her most deadly mistake yet.

And now she must do whatever it takes to save herself--and her unborn child.

A gut-wrenching story of motherhood, survival, and twisted expectations, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden delivers a snowbound thriller that will chill you to the bone.

Tense, chilling, and impossible to put down! The Crash throws readers into a nightmare as Tegan, a pregnant woman stranded in a snowstorm, finds herself trapped in a seemingly kind couple’s cabin. But nothing is as it seems. Freida McFadden masterfully builds suspense with a claustrophobic setting, sharp twists, and a gripping fight for survival. A dark, snowbound thriller about trust, danger, and maternal instinct that will keep you hooked until the final page.

⭐⭐⭐✰☆ 3.5-Star Review: The Crash by Freida McFadden

Alright, so here’s where I land with this one — I liked it more than The Tenant, for sure. The Crash had that fast-paced, slightly unhinged energy that Freida McFadden does so well. It pulled me in right from the first chapter and kept me guessing almost the whole way through. It’s one of those stories where you think, “Okay, I’ll just read a few pages,” and suddenly you’re halfway in and completely invested.

The setup is classic Freida — an accident, a few strangers with tangled secrets, and that creeping sense that not everything (or everyone) is what it seems. It’s got tension, it’s got mystery, and it moves fast. The characters all have that “something’s off” vibe, and watching the pieces slowly click together was genuinely fun. This one definitely had more of that addictive, “just one more chapter” feeling that I missed in The Tenant.

But… it did stretch the limits of believability a little bit. You know when a plot twist hits and you kind of squint at the page like, “Really?” Yeah, a few moments like that. It’s not bad — it’s just a little out there. The kind of thing where you go along for the ride because it’s entertaining, not because it feels totally realistic.

Still, I loved the pacing. It’s quick, sharp, and written in that signature McFadden style — short chapters, strong dialogue, and the kind of suspense that keeps you flipping pages way past when you meant to stop. It’s definitely one of those books that makes you forget time for a while.

So yeah, The Crash was a solid, entertaining read. More engaging and surprising than The Tenant, but not quite up there with her best ones — the ones that totally mess with your mind and leave you sitting there in stunned silence afterward. A little far-fetched at times, but still 100% Freida: twisty, addictive, and impossible to put down until the end.

⭐⭐⭐✰☆ 3,5-sterren recensie: The Crash van Freida McFadden

Dus ja — The Crash was een sterke, vermakelijke thriller.
