Oren has had a very bad night. He is at rock bottom and all hope seems to be lost. He passes out and wakes up in a room covered in shadows and strapped to a mechanical chair with a helmet that has wires going through the ceiling. All pretty normal stuff, right? He looks into a mirror across the room and notices a figure with him. The mysterious man steps out of the shadow and offers him a choice. The choice will test Oren's limits of not only his body, but his entire being.
The story flows almost like poetry at times and I found myself wondering what choices I would make in Oren's shoes. The despair felt by Oren at the start of the story flows all the way through as he confronts the many obstacles in his path. Every choice has a ripple effect and every ripple effect leads to even more ripples. The book has several layers and really speaks to you as you read it.
I found it to be very thought provoking and very deep. I'm used to Jed Kent traumatizing us, but this book feels more like the therapy session we all need between his other books. It's a change of pace and I found myself highlighting several lines in the book to keep for later.

The Spark of Life is a thought-provoking and intense read that pulls you in from the very first scene. Oren’s harrowing journey forces him—and the reader—to question power, purpose, and what it truly means to be human. This story is both haunting and beautiful. A unique and unforgettable experience.
