Eyes of Devious Burgundy

Eyes of Devious Burgundy is an epic start to the Deathcaller Duet and I loved the main characters Assyria and Rokath. Assyria suffers in an abusive marriage and is finally freed after Rokath's army sweeps in and her husband is brutally dealt with. She and Rokath have a fated connection and through their bond, emotions are explored and wounds (both physical and emotional) are healed.

The war between Angels and Demons has resulted in Rokath being the only person keeping the complete annihilation of demons at bay. His determination to survive mirrors Assyria's fiery nature and her resilience in her own struggles. The two characters have trust issues but as you delve deeper into the story, you appreciate how well they complement each other.

I loved the side characters and the plot kept me hooked. Growing up as a Christian and knowing a lot about the war between Angels and Demons made me intrigued as to how Lacey would deliver this story and she nailed it.

The romance, powerful character development (especially for Assyria), and the action sequences were descriptive and had me feeling like I was actually in the scene witnessing it. The writing is intense and it took me a moment to get into the story.
