Anathema Legacy

Derrick Stockton is in his mid-twenties, approaching three years sober, and working a stable job in Ohio. After surviving the seemingly random horrors of his childhood at the hands of a sinister neighbor, he believes he's finally moved on.

All that changes when a brutal murder occurs in his home state of West Virginia. His name is written in blood at the crime scene, and the only evidence is a blurry surveillance video offering a glimpse of the killer, one he knows to be long dead.

As the people closest to him are targeted by a mysterious figure, he works with state police to stop the growing body count. With the help of his support group, Derrick must confront the demons of his past to save his life and his sanity.

"Anathema" by Nick Roberts is a gripping horror novel that delves into the darkness lurking beneath the surface of a family's fresh start. Bryan and Ellie Stockton move to a serene neighborhood in southern West Virginia, hoping to leave behind their tumultuous past and provide a better environment for their young son, Derrick. However, their hopes are shattered when a child disappears nearby, and Derrick begins speaking of a mysterious nighttime visitor. As unsettling events unfold, the Stocktons are forced to confront the possibility that malevolent forces are at play, threatening their family's newfound peace.

From the very first chapter, "Anathema" pulls you into its eerie narrative. Nick Roberts masterfully crafts a tale that's both terrifying and deeply engaging. The story's intensity is palpable, making it hard to put down. There were moments, especially after Chapter 9, where I had to pause and catch my breath. The vivid descriptions and well-developed characters make the horror feel all too real. It's worth noting that this book isn't for the faint of heart; some scenes are particularly graphic and disturbing. However, for those who appreciate a well-told horror story, it's a must-read. This was my first experience with Nick Roberts' work, and it certainly won't be my last.
