This one hooked me fast with a super compelling premise—woman vanishes for 11 years, reappears with a baby, and absolutely detonates her family’s already-fractured life. The emotional fallout was easily the strongest part for me. Watching the husband, the daughter, and Kate herself struggle with who they are now felt raw and believable.

That said, the pacing wobbled. Some sections dragged with repetitive inner thoughts, while a few big “reveals” were rushed when they deserved more buildup. The cult angle had serious potential, but it never went as deep or as dark as I expected, which made the final twists feel more surprising than earned.

Overall, it’s an engaging, thought-provoking read with a haunting central idea—but uneven execution kept it from being a standout. Still worth picking up if you enjoy family-centered psychological thrillers with a slow-burn vibe.

3.5 ⭐ I rounded to 4. I love the dual point of views and the non linear timeline. I think it needed a bit more depth and lacked in areas. Overall I enjoyed it.
