I highly recommend this to any woman over the age of 30, who is interested in longevity, even though it’s marketed for perimenopause and menopause (let’s be honest, you’re closer than you want to admit… why not get started researching now so you know how to optimize what time you do have?)
This book covers an entire range of topics, ranging from optimizing hormones, nutrition guidelines (and I don’t mean calories in/calories out blah blah guidelines, either,) how exercise and nutrition affect your physical and mental health, sleep, mental health, situational anxiety vs anxiety and depression, and everything in between.
It’s written in an extremely informative, data forward, yet readable, non-patronizing, empathetic and well-rounded manner, as well as being extremely well researched (backed up by a full bibliography and citations,) and will not have you rolling your eyes and wondering “why on earth is a man writing a book about menopause/women’s’ health? He needs to stay in his own lane!†There is absolutely no mansplaining in this book.
For 35 years, this doctor has specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, menopause and hormone related healthcare, weight management, and more- his credentials are outstanding. I can also say with 100% confidence that his bedside manner and willingness to build actual relationships with his patients are unmatched (I can say this because full disclosure: he is my doctor and has been for 3+ years.) I did not receive this book for free, nor was I asked to review it, nor am I receiving any type of benefit for doing so. I just found it extremely helpful in my own longevity journey, and I think you will, too.
