Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning meets Nocticadia by Keri Lake - two of my favorite series/books. Meets the Last of Us.
When I saw ThatGirlReads recommend this book and then looked it up and saw that it was dark academia set in Dublin, at Trinity College and involved fae I knew I had to read it. It didn’t disappoint. Sondor was definitely giving “if Jericho Barrons had a younger, much nicer brother†vibes. The FMC was 28, for once, and not 18 and already had her life figured out, which was a nice change of pace from the majority of books I gravitate to, MMC wasn’t hundreds of years old, either, another plus.
Dublin has been besieged by some sort of plague. Random citizens, unconnected, are turning up dead with mushrooms and plants growing out of their organs. Atta is a grad student studying botany, but grew up working in her parents’ mortuary, currently working part time at the local mortuary, and whose undergrad degree was Fae Lore/Religion. When her grant is cut because her choice of post grad studies didn’t match her undergrad she’s left with working for the Morbid Science professor as his TA in order to be able to afford to continue her studies. Luckily for her, she’s got that morgue experience. Enter secret societies, body snatching, secret research, and fae inhabitation and you’ve got one heck of a book.
I definitely enjoyed this book.
Imagine my delight when I realized it’s a duology so there will be more.
Also- “page 394†Easter egg made me giggle.
