Rookie cop, Cally Bank, is about to join the police department of Two Rivers, a vibrant town nestled between waterways at the Jersey Shore. With four older brothers and a dad on the force, there’s a lot to live up to.
Shockingly, Cally’s first morning on the job, a woman is found dead on the river bank, eerily dressed in an evening gown. Soon, police learn it is the nurse reported missing days earlier.
The following week, a local waitress fails to arrive home after her shift, striking fear in the beach town community. When her body is discovered, dressed in similar fashion, the killer sends a note, stating his intention and warning that there will be more.
As the nation becomes riveted by a spree killer dubbed The Couturier, the town of Two Rivers is held hostage. The FBI is summoned, and Cally finds herself with an impossible choice to make.
Torn between a desire to prove her worth, and a promise she’s made to her family, Cally struggles to make a life or death decision, not just for herself, but for the Couturier’s next victim.
Because a third woman has already been abducted, the clock is ticking—and there’s no room for mistakes. But with little evidence and no apparent motive, the killer’s true intentions remain hidden in the folds of a twisted mind. And it may come down to Cally to uncover the truth—and save her hometown.

Susan Paytas is a life-long resident of the Jersey Shore, where she and her husband raised their two children. A Lady in Danger is Susan’s debut novel and is the recipient of several awards including First Place wins in the San Antonio Merritt Contest, the Indiana Golden Opportunity Contest; and First Runner-Up in RWA’s prestigious Golden Heart Contest in the Single Title category.
