Hunted

"First came the Vampire-Human Civil War. Vampires lost, and the clans moved to government land under the Vampire Relocation Act. Considered second-class citizens, many vampires blended in as best they could. Blood was government subsidized through the Red Cross-yet another reason humans looked down on vampires for accepting public aid. Neither side trusted the other despite the best efforts of the Vampire Human Alliance (VHA). Vampire Edith Dorset has spent the last hundred years advocating for vampire rights and expanding her undead family. She can't let go of the human family that was almost her, causing friction between herself and her sire, Mr. Heartsong. Ever since his parents' death twelve years ago, Vampire Hunter Darren Paxton takes out as many bloodsuckers as possible. When his younger brother Dan goes missing at a local role play convention, Darren finds him in the company of Edith and the Heartsong clan. Vampires recruit new members under the pretense of a Live Action Role Play (LARP) experience for interested teens and millennials. At the end of the weekend, participants either consent to being turned into a vampire or glamoured to forget the last 72 hours. When someone on the inside kills vampires, Mr. Heartsong blames Dan. Darren and Edith team up to clear Dan and find the real killer during the sham trial. The partnership draws them closer while they discover the truths they lived by are wrong. Their world is much darker and dangerous than either realized"--

This was a fantastic start of the series, that was told in Edith a vampire and Darren a hunter’s points of view. Oh, this short book had so much to it. It was jam-packed! A LARP weekend that wasn’t really as innocent as just it seemed to the humans. Vampire deaths, accusations, vampire hunters in the Institute and romances too from unlikely characters.
The characters were all likeable, I particularly liked Darren, Parker and Edith.
I was completely hooked from the first page, it was my kind of book and I read it in one sitting and I was eager to pick up book two straight away.
