"So picture this: Retirement home in the countryside. 2000s. Four of us taking on a murder case."
This book seriously reminded me of a cross between Golden Girls (Elizabeth is definitely Dorothy, Joyce is 100% Rose (she was Betty White in my head the whole time and that made it amazing), Ron is Blanche and poor Ibrahim is kinda left out cause he is not really Sophia, but you cannot get it right every time.
Then cross in the show Waiting for God to get Ian as the "fool Baines," and there you have it.
Oh, and toss in a few murders to boot, one old, one new. There, stage set.
It's definitely a fun read, but I feel like the ending was seriously rushed, and it suffered from something similar to The Sanatorium: too many twists that snarled it up. If the author had stopped one twist sooner, it would have felt stronger. As it was, it didn't really leave me with a satisfied feeling at the end. Mind, I am still curious about the second book, but not enough to rush out and buy it yet.
So, a fun read, but too many red herrings and twists doesn't generally make a satisfying ending (for me. Your mileage will vary)
