Consider me traumatised. I got 1/3 into this audiobook before realising the events were very similar to a movie I’d watched (An American Crime) that also traumatised me. The writing is great, so realistic, I was hooked and despite myself and literal nausea, I’ve just finished it. The spiral into madness, depravity, sadism and “othering” is so well written. The human condition is explored so well. It is absolutely horrific to know this is based on true events.
